CABAC designs and manufactures a huge range of quality copper, bi-metal and aluminium lugs and links. The standard and special lug range accommodates a large range of cables and cable sizes however modifications based on your specific requirements are available on request. CABAC manufacturing and testing is accredited to ISO9001 for quality management systems and all CABAC lugs conform to Australian and New Zealand standards as well as many international standards (test reports are available). CABAC Lugs are designed for crimping with standard Australian tooling.

Copper Lugs

Copper Crimp Lugs, Copper Bell Mouth Lugs, Copper Long Palm Long Barrel Lugs, Copper Long Barrel Lugs, Copper Circuit Breaker Lugs, Copper Double Grip Lugs, Copper Bolted Lugs

Providing the best electrical properties possible, CABAC copper crimp lugs are capable of withstanding a continuous operating temperature of 155°C (higher than the temperature properties of most lugs). In the standard range most sizes feature a viewing window to check the conductor location.

There are many designs available including Bell Mouth for fine stranded cables, Long Palm Long Barrel for totally airtight applications, Long Barrel for outdoor use, Circuit Breaker for terminating large cables to circuit breakers, Double Grip for high vibration and critical terminations and Bolted Lugs which can be used many times and is a great solution where a
temporary connection is needed.

Bi-Metal Lugs

Bi-Metal Lugs, Bi-Metal Long Palm Long Barrel Lugs, Bi-Metal Solid Sector 4 Core Lugs, Bi-Metal Switchgear Connectors

With a large range of bi-metal lug designs available it is easy to find the right cable termination solution with reverse bi-metal options also available on request. Manufactured from the highest quality aluminium (99.6%) and copper (99.9%) using a friction welding process, an electrically sound joint is produced, which will not be subject to electrolysis.

As well as the standard bi-metal lug design for use with stranded sector and circular stranded aluminium conductor this range includes Long Palm Long Barrel for use with CCT (Covered Conductor Thick) conductor, Solid Sector 4 Core for use with solid sector aluminium cable only and Switchgear Connectors for terminating aluminium conductors on to 12mm copper switchgear stem.

Aluminium Lugs

Aluminium Lugs, Sector Shaped Rotating Barrel Lug, Solid Sector Aluminium Lug, Aluminium Bolted, Stalk Lugs

The standard aluminium lug range is manufactured using a forging process where imperfections in the metal structure are eliminated. This improves the long-term electrical reliability, eliminating future hot joints. Designed for use with stranded sector and circular stranded aluminium conductor, the standard lug features a unique funnel entry, which enables the stranded sector cable to be easily inserted into the barrel. The lug palm can be oriented in any direction.

The aluminium lug range also includes the Sector Shaped Rotating Barrel Lug for use with 240mm² aluminium 4-core sector cable, the Solid Sector design for use with 3 and 4-core solid sector cable, Bolted Lugs and Stalk Lugs for use with solid and stranded, sector or circular conductor, aluminium or copper. The bolted design uses shear bolt technology, eliminating the need for a crimping tool.

What is a Cable Lug?

A Cable Lug is an electrical fitting used to connect a cable to appliances, other cables, surfaces or mechanisms.

One end of the Lug accommodates the cable using a soldering, welding or crimping method, depending on the type of lug. The other end of the lug is fastened to a matching terminal or connection point using a bolt, screw or spring clip.

There are many sizes, configurations and materials available to suit a range of applications. Copper, brass and aluminium are the most common and plating is sometimes used to optimise voltage transfer and reduce metal oxidation.

Why is a Cable Lug used?

A Cable Lug is easy to install or remove (for repairs or maintenance) and can be used when;

  • permanent or direct fastening methods are not practical or necessary,
  • a higher voltage level is used and a more secure form of electrical connection is needed, or a
  • transfer of power is required from one location to another, distributing to multiple devices.

Which Type of Cable Lug do I use?

A Cable Lug is chosen based on two factors:

  • The dimension and the type of wire or cable used
  • The size of the terminal, screw or bolt
