CABAC Cable Ties – Four Decades of Proven Performance

Since 1982, CABAC has been a trusted name in Australia’s electrical industry. The name itself comes from “Cable Accessories”, reflecting the company’s focus on providing the everyday essentials that electricians rely on. Cable ties were one of the first products CABAC introduced and remain one of the most widely used across the trade today.

Over more than 40 years, CABAC has built its reputation on reliability, compliance and consistent quality — a combination that has made its cable ties a staple across industrial, commercial and infrastructure projects nationwide.

Range Expansion – Longer and Stronger Options

CABAC has recently expanded its cable tie range to include longer and higher-tensile options. The range covers Light, Standard, Heavy and Ultra-Heavy Duty categories.

Duty Rating Width (mm) Tensile Strength Applications
Light duty 2.5 – 3.5 8.2 – 18.2 kg Light cable runs, wiring, panel assembly
Standard duty 4.6 – 4.8 ≥ 22.6 kg General electrical installations
Heavy duty 7.5 – 8.8 54.5 – 79.3 kg Industrial, mining and infrastructure work
Ultra heavy duty 12.2 ≥ 113.4 kg Large bundles, containment systems, plant rooms

New length additions

Part number Dimensions (mm) Duty class
CT550BK 550 × 4.8 Standard duty
CT740BK 740 × 4.8 Standard duty
CT920BK-HD 920 × 9.0 Heavy duty
CT365BK-UHD 380 × 12.0 Ultra heavy duty
CT730BK-UHD 730 × 12.0 Ultra heavy duty
CT880BK-UHD 880 × 12.0 Ultra heavy duty

This expanded range gives installers the flexibility to select the right cable tie for each application.

Material, Specification and Performance

Material

CABAC cable ties are manufactured from nylon 6/6 (polyamide 66), the established industry standard for cable fastening. Nylon 6/6 is commonly used because it provides an excellent balance of mechanical strength, toughness, flexibility and cost efficiency. It is lightweight, durable and resistant to most common oils, greases and chemicals encountered in electrical and industrial environments.

The material is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs small amounts of atmospheric moisture. This natural property helps maintain flexibility and impact resistance, particularly in variable humidity conditions.

Specification

CABAC’s nylon 6/6 cable ties are designed for consistent performance across a wide range of installation environments.

  • Operating temperature: –40 °C to +85 °C
  • Flammability rating: UL 94 V-2
  • Colour options: UV Black (stabilised for outdoor exposure) and Natural (for indoor use only)

Performance and compliance

CABAC cable ties are periodically verified through tensile and dimensional testing in CABAC’s NATA-accredited laboratory to confirm ongoing conformity to specification.

They comply with a broad suite of international standards and certifications, each addressing a specific performance or safety requirement.

Standard / Certification Description and relevance
UL 94 V-2; Plenum Rated AH-2 Confirms flame-retardant performance and suitability for air-handling (plenum) areas where smoke and heat release must be restricted — important for compliance in building and infrastructure projects.
EN 14582:2016 (Halogen-Free) Verifies the absence of halogens such as chlorine, fluorine, bromine and iodine, reducing corrosive and toxic gas generation during a fire — essential in enclosed or public environments.
AfPS GS 2019:01 PAK Category 2b Tests for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), compounds that can be harmful to human health and the environment. Category 2b compliance ensures CABAC cable ties contain PAHs well below recognised safety thresholds.
UL 62275 / EN 62275:2019 Specifies requirements and test methods for mechanical strength, thermal endurance, flammability and material performance of cable ties used in electrical installations, ensuring consistent and safe performance under load.
CE (LVD 2014/35/EU) and UKCA (IEC 62275) Confirm conformity with European and UK low-voltage safety directives, relevant for projects referencing international standards.
DNV Type Approval Confirms acceptance for installation on vessels classed by DNV, including ships and mobile offshore units; suitable for open-deck use in black (UV) versions only.
RoHS / REACH / TSCA Verify compliance with global hazardous-substance and chemical-safety regulations, supporting environmentally responsible procurement.

Did You Know CABAC Cable Ties Are Low Smoke, Zero Halogen (LSZH)?

CABAC’s nylon cable ties are tested and verified for low-smoke, zero-halogen (LSZH) performance, meeting EN 14582, UL 94 V-2 and Plenum Rated AH-2 classification under UL 62275.

These results validate their suitability for ventilated enclosures, control panels, public buildings, tunnels and confined indoor spaces where limiting smoke and corrosive-gas emission is a project requirement.

Applications Across the Trade

CABAC cable ties are used extensively throughout Australia’s electrical and industrial sectors.

  • Electrical contractors use them daily for switchboards, cable runs and field installations.
  • Panel builders and OEMs rely on their consistency for harnessing and assembly work.
  • EPC and mechanical & electrical (M&E) contractors specify them in large-scale infrastructure, industrial and building projects where documentation and compliance are required.
  • Wholesalers depend on CABAC’s national supply network and complete range coverage.

With light, standard, heavy and ultra-heavy-duty options available in both UV-stabilised and natural finishes, CABAC provides a dependable fastening solution for almost every application across the trade.

Four Decades of Reliability

For more than 40 years, CABAC has supported Australia’s electrical industry with reliable, compliant and proven products.

When projects demand performance and compliance, contractors and specifiers continue to choose CABAC for their cable accessory needs.
